The Sabbath and
sabbaths:
Of the Christian Sabbath
and heathen sabbaths about to be listed;
(1.) which Sabbath
is of the Lord's historical, penitent,
and openly Christian Seventh-day Adventists;
(2.) which sabbath
is of Satan's historical, impenitent,
openly sinning, openly guilty, deceptive,
and openly heathen Babylonians, from
without; and
(3.) which sabbath
is of Satan's historical, impenitent,
openly more sinning, openly more
guilty, more deceptive,
and openly heathen Laodiceans, from
within:
(A.) Sabbath-keeping;
(B.) Sunday-keeping;
(C.) Sabbath-polluting?
"35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to Thy holy name, and glory in Thy praise." --- 1 Chronicles 16:35.
"5 Behold ye among the heathen [i.e., here the word, 'among,' is translated from the Hebrew word, 'beyn' (pronounced: bane), which means: between; in; within; among], and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you." --- Habakkuk 1:5. Bracketed pastoral note supplied.
"38 And ye shall perish among the heathen [i.e., here the word, 'among,' is translated from the Hebrew word, 'tavek' (pronounced: taw'-vek), which means: between; through; within; in the middle of; in the midst of; among] . . . ." --- Leviticus 26:38. Bracketed pastoral note supplied.
". . . . heathen . . . worse than dead . . . lukewarm Laodiceans." --- ST August 2, 1899, "The Two Great Principles of the Law;" or 4ST 50:1:4
". . . . aiding the enemy [i.e., and/or aiding Satan, who is a robber or thief, the father of lies, the adversary of souls, the enemy of God and man, the master of deception, the archdeceiver, a liar, a murderer from the beginning, a destroyer, a false accuser of the TRUE brethren, a deceiver, a tormentor, a rebel, an apostate, and the secretly disguised god of this world and of both ancient and modern heathenism in a professing sheep's clothing guise, in a professing religious guise, in a professing Christian guise, and/or in a professing Seventh day Adventist guise] . . . The term 'lukewarm' is applicable to this class." --- 4T 87:2, "The Testing Process," written in 1876. Bracketed pastoral note supplied.
". . . . heathen . . . worse than dead . . . lukewarm Laodiceans." --- ST August 2, 1899, "The Two Great Principles of the Law;" or 4ST 50:1:4.
"Those who claim to be the children of God, and yet do not obey His commands, who are hearers but not doers of the Word [i.e., thus, they are foolish and stony-ground 'hearers but not doers of the Word'], are regarded by the Lord as bankers regard fraudulent bank-notes. They are not genuine. They claim the name of Christian, but in reality they are heathen. To those who do not practise it, the Word of God is a dead letter. Christ says of such, 'I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm [i.e., and/or so then because thou art 'aiding the enemy,' which is exactly what the predictably and frequently misused, mishandled, misrepresented, misapplied, and thus obviously misunderstood term, 'lukewarm,' really means, as clearly seen in 4T 87:2, which was written in 1876, and which was already cited two Heaven-sent quotations immediately above], and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth.' [Revelation 3:15-16.] If they realized that they were sinners, He could plead in their behalf, and the Lord would arouse them by His Holy Spirit. But He can not present them to the Father; for they are worse than dead in trespasses and sins. They hear the Word, but make no application of it to themselves. Instead, they apply the Word to their neighbors. God can be no power [i.e., no Christian energy; no Christian influence; no Christian hold; no Christian strength; no Christian control; no Christian Inspiration; no third person of the Christian Godhead; no Christian Latter Rain; no Christian Holy Spirit; and/or no Christian 'power'] to lukewarm Laodiceans." --- ST August 2, 1899, "The Two Great Principles of the Law;" or 4ST 50:1:4. Bracketed pastoral notes supplied.

". . . . the idolatry of the heathen . . . ." --- AA 239:2, "Berea and Athens," written in 1911.
"5 . . . . covetousness . . . is idolatry . . . ." --- Colossians 3:5.
"God does not regard all sins as of equal magnitude; there are degrees of guilt in His estimation as well as in that of finite man. But however trifling this or that wrong in their course may seem in the eyes of men, no sin is small in the sight of God. The sins, which man is disposed to look upon as small, may be the very ones which God accounts as great crimes. The drunkard is despised and is told that his sin will exclude him from Heaven, while pride, selfishness, and covetousness go unrebuked. But these are sins that are especially offensive to God. He 'resisteth the proud' [James 4:6], and Paul tells us that covetousness is idolatry. Those who are familiar with the denunciations against idolatry in the Word of God will at once see how grave an offense this sin is." --- 5T 337:3, "Worldly Ambition," written in 1885. Bracketed pastoral note supplied.

"I wish to plead with our brethren who shall assemble at the General Conference to heed the message given to the Laodiceans. What a condition of blindness is theirs! Only those who receive the
SEAL OF THE LIVING GOD will
have the passport through the gates
of the Holy City. But there
are many who take upon
themselves responsibilities in
connection with the
work of God who are not
wholehearted believers, and while they
remain thus cannot receive
the SEAL OF THE LIVING GOD.
They trust in their own
righteousness, which the Lord
accounts as foolishness.
Those who would have the SEAL OF GOD
in their foreheads must keep the Sabbath
of the fourth commandment. This is what DISTINGUISHES
them from the disloyal,
who have accepted a man-made institution
in the place of the TRUE Sabbath. The observance
of God's rest day is the MARK of
DISTINCTION between him that serveth God and him
that serveth Him not. . . .
Many will not receive
the SEAL OF GOD because
they do not keep His
commandments or bear the fruits
of righteousness.
The great mass of
professing Christians will meet
with BITTER disappointment IN
THE DAY OF GOD. They have
not upon their
foreheads the SEAL OF THE
LIVING GOD. Lukewarm and halfhearted,
they dishonor God far
more than the
avowed unbeliever. They
grope in darkness [i.e.,
and/or they grope in 'heathenism' (AA 248:4-249:1)] . . . ."

"The prayer of faith is the great strength of the Christian and will assuredly prevail against Satan. This is why he insinuates that we have no need of prayer. The name of Jesus, our Advocate, he detests; and, when we earnestly come to Him for help, Satan's host is alarmed. It serves his PURPOSE well, if we neglect the exercise of prayer, for then his lying wonders [i.e., and/or for then his falsehoods of idolatry; and/or for then his heathenisms] are more readily received. . . His arts and devices [i.e., like the spiritually discernable and/or open 'idolatry of the heathen' (AA 239:2) is obviously one of Satan's 'arts and devices' (1T 296:2); and, therefore, the spiritually discernable and/or open 'idolatry of the heathen' (AA 239:2) is in and of itself heathenishly disguised but really open 'Satan' 'worship,' as defined in this present Heaven-sent quotation from 1T 296:2, and nobody needs to be literally praying to anything, nobody needs to be literally bowing down to anything, and nobody needs to be literally in a church building for this heathenishly disguised but really open 'Satan' 'worship' (1T 296:2) to be taking place; because, the spiritually discernable and/or open 'idolatry of the heathen' (AA 239:2), which includes the open 'idolatry' of Satan's impenitent and openly 'heathen' 'Laodiceans,' from within (ST August 2, 1899, or 4ST 50:1:4; AA 238:4-239:2; 1 Corinthians 10:14-15; and Acts 17:16, 29 31), is most definitely one of Satan's openly heathen 'arts and devices' (1T 296:2)] are received as from Heaven, and faith in the detector, the Bible, is destroyed in the minds of thousands. Thus, (1.) since all "idols" and/or "gods" [1 Chronicles 16:26] heathenishly pollute God's "Sabbath" [Ezekiel 11:12; 20:15-16]; and (2.) since literal, classical, and highly visible "idols" and/or "gods" [1 Chronicles 16:26]: (A.) include any "PROHIBITED" [PP 316:1] and "dead" [Acts 17:16, 29-31] picture or so-called "likeness" [Exodus 20:4; 15MR 114:1-4, or Letter 145, September 8, 1899] "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "Jehovah" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15], (B.) include any "PROHIBITED" [PP 316:1] and "dead" [Acts 17:16, 29-31] statue or "graven image" [Exodus 20:4; AA 237:2] "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "Jehovah" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15], (C.) include any "PROHIBITED" [PP 316:1] and "dead" [Acts 17:16, 29-31] and so-called "similitude" [Deuteronomy 4:12-16, 17 18; 6:14; Malachi 3:6; PP 316:1] "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "Jehovah" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15], (D.) include any "PROHIBITED" [PP 316:1] and "dead" [Acts 17:16, 29-31] and "material representation" [PP 316:1] "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "Jehovah" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15], and/or (E.) include any "PROHIBITED" [PP 316:1] and "dead" [Acts 17:16, 29-31] "image" "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "God" [ST May 6, 1880; or 1ST 154:2:15], and/or "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" any One of the living "Godhead" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15; Acts 17:16, 29-31], and/or "made" to allegedly and TRULY "represent" the living "Jehovah" [ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; ST May 6, 1880, or 1ST 154:2:15], and thus always "made" to still knowingly or unknowingly cause open "heathenism" (AA 238:4 239:2], and/or historical and openly "heathen" Laodiceanism [ST August 2, 1899; or 4ST 50:1:4], and/or open "idolatry" to all "spread like a plague throughout the land" [ST June 2, 1881; or 1ST 231:2:3]; - - therefore, - - from another perspective in God's Word, what is yet one more definition of literal, classical, and highly visible "gods" and/or "idols" [1 Chronicles 16:26]?

Therefore, since all gods and/or idols pollute God's Sabbath; and since literal, classical, and highly visible gods and/or idols include "anything that diverts the mind from God" [SD 57; or MS 2, 1893 cited immediately above], - - what in reality diverts the mind from God, according to God's revealed Judgment, and/or according to the revealed language of Heaven, and/or according to God's revealed Word?
"The human mind is naturally inclined to dwell upon the things which are seen and heard, and to neglect the things which are unseen. The Lord had done marvelous things for His people in the manifesting of His power as the only TRUE and living God; yet many had been led astray by the Satanic delusion that God might be represented by material objects, the works of men's hands. By the contemplation of these things, their minds were diverted from God [i.e., thus, please compare this sentence with the Heaven-sent definition of an 'idol' being 'anything that diverts the mind from God,' as clearly defined in SD 57, or MS 2, 1893, which was the previous Heaven-sent quotation cited earlier above, and which is also the next Heaven-sent quotation cited immediately below]." --- ST May 19, 1881, "Joshua's Farewell Address;" or 1ST 227:3:2. ". . . . groping in the darkness of heathenism . . . ." --- AA 248:4-249:1, "Corinth," written in 1911.
"The light of God in nature is shining continually into the darkness of heathenism, but many who see this light do not glorify [i.e., do not honor] the Lord as God. They do not permit reason to lead them to acknowledge their Creator. They refuse the Lord, and set up senseless idols to adore [i.e., and/or they refuse the Lord, and set up senseless 'gods' to adore, as clearly seen in 1 Chronicles 16:26, 35; ST August 2, 1899, or 4ST 50:1:4 (1 Chronicles 16:35; ST June 2, 1881, or 1ST 231:2:3; 1 Chronicles 16:26; PK 682:2; 4T 87:2, written in 1876; and 7BC 970:1:7, or Letter 121, 1903)]. ". . . . heathen . . . worse than dead . . . lukewarm Laodiceans." --- ST August 2, 1899, "The Two Great Principles of the Law;" or 4ST 50:1:4.
"Those who claim to be the children of God, and yet do not obey His commands, who are hearers but not doers of the Word [i.e., thus, again, they are foolish and stony-ground 'hearers but not doers of the Word'], are regarded by the Lord as bankers regard fraudulent bank-notes. They are not genuine. They claim the name of Christian, but in reality they are heathen. To those who do not practise it, the Word of God is a dead letter. Christ says of such, 'I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm [i.e., and/or so then because thou art 'aiding the enemy,' which is precisely what the predictably and frequently misused, mishandled, misrepresented, misapplied, and thus obviously misunderstood term, 'lukewarm,' really means, as clearly seen in 4T 87:2, which was written in 1876, and which was already cited earlier in this study], and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth.' [Revelation 3:15-16.] If they realized that they were sinners, He could plead in their behalf, and the Lord would arouse them by His Holy Spirit. "Justice requires
that man shall have light,
and it also requires that he
who refuses to walk in this
Heaven-sent light, the giving of
which cost the death of
the Son of God, shall receive
punishment. It is a principle of
Justice that the guilt of
the sinner is proportionate to
the knowledge given him, but
not used, or used
in a wrong
way. . . .
Christ came that we might have
life, and that we might have
it 'more abundantly.' [John 10:10.] God
expects human beings
to accept His Son as the
propitiation for sin, and
to receive into their lives
the TRUTHS He came to bring.
Those who are overcome in
the struggle with sin
are without excuse, for the
Saviour offers to all power
that will enable them to overcome
the evil that assails
them.
If God had failed to
act His part, if He had
given human beings any
reason for neglecting the great
salvation offered them, man
might plead ignorance as
a valid excuse. But He has
made the way plain. When has
He required any one
to do anything without giving him
full directions as to what He
requires him to do? God
would have all men to
be saved. He communicates to all
a knowledge of His will, that
each may say, I know
what the Lord desires me
to do.
To some is given
greater light than to
others. Each will be
Judged by the light given him.
The degree of light bestowed is
the measure of responsibility [i.e.,

in strong emotion.
Here is where many are
led into error.
They make feelings their
criterion. When they feel
elated or happy, they claim
that they are SANCTIFIED. Happy
feelings or the absence of
joy is no evidence that
a person is or is not
SANCTIFIED. There is no
such thing as
instantaneous SANCTIFICATION. TRUE SANCTIFICATION
is a daily work, continuing as
long as life shall last. Those
who are battling with daily
temptations, overcoming their
own sinful tendencies,
and seeking for holiness of heart
and life, make no
boastful claims of holiness
[i.e., and/or, thus, make no boastful claims of being the
TRUE church and/or the remnant on this side of the Judgment of
God]. They are hungering and thirsting
for righteousness. Sin appears
to them exceedingly sinful.
. . .
The most precious fruit of SANCTIFICATION
is the grace of meekness. When
this grace presides in the
soul, the disposition is molded
by its influence. There is a
continual waiting upon God, and
a submission of the will to
His [i.e., thus, please remember, that TRUE 'meekness'
consists of (1.) 'a continual waiting upon God,' and (2.)
'a submission of the will to His' (SL 14:2-15:1)]. The understanding
grasps every divine TRUTH, and
the will bows to every divine
precept, without doubting or murmuring.
TRUE meekness [i.e., thus, not (1.)
Satan's openly heathen, Laodicean, counterfeit, and false
meekness; which promotes and encourages effeminate behavior in
men, and, then, falsely calls this meekness; and which
also promotes and encourages many more wicked ideas among people,
and, then, also falsely calls these meekness; but,
instead, (2.) the Lord's openly Christian, Seventh-day
Adventist, genuine, and 'TRUE meekness'] softens and
subdues the heart, and
gives the mind a fitness
for the ingrafted Word. It brings
the thoughts [i.e., thus, when it
comes to the sin of 'idolatry' and/or to the sin of heathenism,
please remember what we are 'not to think,' as clearly
described by the Testimony of Jesus through the apostle Paul in
Acts 17:16, 29 31] into obedience to Jesus
Christ. It opens the heart to
the Word of God, as Lydia's
was opened. It places us with
Mary as learners at the feet
of Jesus. 'The meek will He
guide in judgment, and the meek
will He teach His way.'
[Psalms 25:9.]." --- SL 10:2, 14:2-15:1,

"Pleasing or unpleasing
to human nature,
faithfulness, vigilance, and boldness
must be exercised, or sin
will triumph over
righteousness. A failure to see
and sense the wants of the
cause for this
time, and to reprove
sin, is called by
some, meekness [i.e., and/or,
thus, 'a failure' (1.) 'to see and sense the wants of the
cause for this time,' and (2.) 'to reprove sin,' 'is
called by some' of Satan's great mass of openly sinning,
impenitent, openly Sabbath polluting, and thus openly idolatrous,
and therefore openly heathen Laodiceans, 'meekness']; God calls
it unfaithfulness, and spiritual
sloth. . . .
. . . . Idolatry in various
forms is at
home in our
midst." --- PH043:10,
